MSL5026 tape drive not seen by N1200 storage router
I have an MSL5026 library which is connected to a N1200 Network Storage Router which in turn is connected to the Fabric Switch 6 in the back of my MSA1000 SAN Array.
After some tweaking with the config of the N1200, almost everything works. The N1200 discovers the drives in the MSA1000 and discovers the MSL5026.
But, it doesn't see the tape-drive that is in the back of my MSL5026. Therefore, Windows (2000 Advanced Server) also does not see the tape-drive.
Does anybody have any idea what could be the problem?
Thanks very much in advance!
Wouter

Re: MSL5026 tape drive not seen by N1200 storage router
I checked the SCSI-cabling on the back of the MSL5026 again, and found that it was incorrect.
Fixed that and now it works like a charm.

Re: MSL5026 tape drive not seen by N1200 storage router
I am in process of configuring same drive in HPUX 11i via FC switch (No zoning configured)
I am not able to see the drives at all.
But when I connect thru' LVD SCSI Cable, It does recognize.
Finally, I need to connect only Fibre channel only
Do I need to use network storage router to get it connect to FC HUB?
Share your expertise if you have configure with HPUX 11i..
Many thanks ..

Do you see the library (MSL 5000 Series) on the host?
If not, I suspect you have not setup the NSR. You need to log into the web interface and go into the mapping settings. You should use the Indexed map, and fill it (the default map is empty) with the library and drives. You also need to assign the map to the host(s) that need to see them.

Re: MSL5026 tape drive not seen by N1200 storage router
I've got same problem with MSL6030 & NSR e12000-160 connected through MSA1000 FC switch. I'm running RedHat Linux 7.3 and can see one MSA1000 controller, one MSA1000
disk volume and MSL6030 Tape Robot only.
[root@slim etc]# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: COMPAQ Model: MSA1000 Rev: 2.38
Type: Unknown ANSI SCSI revision: 04
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 01
Vendor: COMPAQ Model: MSA1000 VOLUME Rev: 2.38
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 04
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 01 Lun: 00
Vendor: HP Model: MSL6000 Series Rev: 0414
Type: Medium Changer ANSI SCSI revision: 02
I checked SCSI connections - all components are connected as shown at NSR e1200-160 Installation Card. But I can't 2 tape drives inside my MSL library. Tried to select Indexed, Auto Assigned map, Port 0 Device Map - the same thing.
At the moment I see following configuration:
Map: FCP Port 0: Name 'Auto Assigned'
+--------++------+------+------+------+------------------------------------+
| FC LUN || Prtl | Port | TYPE | STAT | Protocol Specific Information |
+--------++------+------+------+------+------------------------------------+

Does anybody have any idea what could be the problem?

Re: MSL5026 tape drive not seen by N1200 storage router
is there some guide available how to 'properly' set up an NSR? Don't get me wrong: I am not asking how to maintain the maps.
Background:
From trying to set it up for HP-UX it appears that the controller LUN must not be mapped to LUN 0 or HP-UX 11.0 gets confused and creates lots of LUNs. Putting the robotic device first, then the tape drives and finally the NSR 'worked' for us.
I have later been told by the customer that someone from HP field service told him that the controller LUN of the NSR should not presented to a host at all. I have not seen any such hints in the manuals. OK, there is a certain chance that I have missed it.
The first setup (NSR LUN 0) worked on Tru64 Unix, by the way.
I had already asked another nice HP field service person about this, but he said they did not have any material either.

Re: MSL5026 tape drive not seen by N1200 storage router
With W2003 you need to configure a lun-0, without a lun zero W2003 will not scan for other luns. We just discovered this after we upgraded a server from W2K to W2003 and it did not detect the MSL at all.

Re: MSL5026 tape drive not seen by N1200 storage router
When using hp-ux you need a map where the AF is configured at the end of the list not at the beginning.
