MSL5052S2 and M2402

Hi,

Using a MSL5052S2 connected in a dual drive 2 host config. It is connected to a M2402. The M2402 is connected to a 2/8 EL switch. 2 windows 200 servers running backup exec 8.6. Both servers when running a backup run very slow and keep a rate of 64mb/min.

Is there anything I should be configuring as I have left the config of library and NSR default.

NB when the library is attached direct to the server via scsi, throughput is OK.

We've run into backup throughput problems in the past and most of the time it was due to the NIC and switch port settings. We found that hard coding the nics and switch ports to the maximum settings (100/full if available) did the trick. The auto/auto always gave us trouble and sporadic throughput.

Terry, thanks for the reply, however the server is connected via fibre to a 8 port fibre switch running at 2gb. The data is travelling from the local HDD through SAN to tape library. We are fairly sure it is the config of the NSR M2402.

Hi Paul

1. Do you backup to one or two drives simultaneously? If 2 drives, your server might not be able to satisfy the speed needs of the SDLT drive (16MB/sec uncompressed per drive). The drive will go into shoeshine mode and slow down dramatically.

4. Try the Performance Assessment Tool from http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/promotions/tapeattack/compatiblity_configuration.html It can show you your bottlenecks.
