MSL6000 firmware

Just for my curiosity - while HP has still version 5.20 for the MSL6000 series, Overland has for the Neo 2k/4k series version 6.16.

Does anybody know what the difference is?
Any release notes of 6.16 available?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: MSL6000 firmware

BTW, I pushed version 6.16 to a MSL6000, it works nicely, but I'm still curious about changes.

I wonder why HP does not provide a newer version, even if it exist.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: MSL6000 firmware

where did you see the 6.16 is a new firmware?

it looks to me that it is from 2009 in the ftp site of overland (just looking at the date of the file) HP have the 5.20 from around that time if I remember well

(and the number are not in sync, HP follow his numbering and Overland his own, so 5.20 do not mean it is lower than the 6.16)

Re: MSL6000 firmware

Thanks for your answer.

Yes, 6.16 is obviously from 2009; but HP's 5.20 is from 2007:

Even if I compare content of the files (the *.bin format), they are totally different.

But if I compare both 5.18 versions, they are the same, only a few bits are different (as expected).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: MSL6000 firmware

not sure, but HP do not support newest LTO tecnology on these products, G3 MSL are the future, it may be Overland updated to include the LTO5 supporto, but i'm not sure

Re: MSL6000 firmware

Maybe, the neo specs say LTO 4 and 5. And they say SCSI, FC and SAS. SAS could be the reason.

By the way, did you see the 200s and 400s?

Looks very familiar ... ;-)

But this is likely also the same:

Re: MSL6000 firmware

Yes, I remember I read this anywhere some time ago.

It's a german company, but this doesn't necessarily mean made in germany.

If I remember correctly, the galactica was the last library really made by HP, right?
Some time ago I have seen the old sundot, sunspot (or whatever the name was) still working... :-)

Hope this helps!
