MSL6030, NSR E1200, FC 2\8 EL, MSA1000 and 2 Proliant DL 380G3\G4

I have a MSL6030 with NSR E1200, atached to a FC Switch 2\8 EL.
Attached to the Switch i have a MSA1000 and 2 Proliant DL380 (one G3 and the other G4)
Windows 2003 Server is installed in both servers.
My problem is that the 2 Servers doensn´t detect de MSL.
In the NSR E1200 i can see the Library and de LTO Drive e SCSI 0 Devices. And see the servers hosts.
In the FC 2\8 EL i see all hosts attached.
Anyone have ideias on how to solve the problem?

Sorry my English

Does FC 2/8EL have Selective Server Presentation (SSP) limiting visibility of hosts?

Artur,

You've got to create a mapping on the NSR router before the servers will see the library.

Choose in the web based gui of the NSR:

Mappings
Select Map - Edit / View
Fill Map

Cameron,

Yes I have to Logical disks in MSA1000 and i use SSP through ACU to limit visibility to the hosts (Proliant Servers).

If you are not doing 3rd-party (serverless; Xcopy) backup, then the NSR is not accessing the MSA1k. Therefore, SSP for the NSR is irrelevant. I'm sure that you are *NOT* using serverless backup.

In your case, the hosts read from the MSA1k and then write to the MSL drive. So, "No. NSR does not need to be added to MSA1k SSP".

But, you *do* have to create the map that Kurt mentioned.

By default, all hosts are assigned to the "Indexed" map, I believe. Go to the Indexed map and fill it. Be sure to use priority "Bus/Target" (*NOT* "Target/Bus") when you fill map.

The map should show something like:

FC LUN Protocol Bus Device Specific Address Type Status Device Description
0 PSCSI 0 Target= 0 Lun= 0 CHGR UP COMPAQ MSL5000 Series 0423
1 PSCSI 0 Target= 1 Lun= 0 TAPE UP HP Ultrium 1-SCSI E38W
2 AF Lun= 0 CTLR UP HP NS E1200-160

The important part is that the AF ctlr device be the *last* one on the map (that's what priority "Bus/Target" gives you; "Target/Bus" puts AF first = no good). Otherwise, you'll see many extra tape devices on the hosts.

Re: MSL6030, NSR E1200, FC 2\8 EL, MSA1000 and 2 Proliant DL 380G3\G4

Hy all,

The index Map have this entries:
FC LUN Protocol Bus Device Specific Address Type Status Device Description
0 PSCSI 0 Target= 0 Lun= 0 CHGR UP HP MSL6000 Series 0430
1 PSCSI 0 Target= 1 Lun= 0 TAPE UP HP Ultrium 2-SCSI F59W
2 AF Lun= 0 CTLR UP HP NS E1200-160

But the Server not detect de MSL6030...
Where else could i check to see if there is an error of configuration?
Thnaks in advance to all.

Re: MSL6030, NSR E1200, FC 2\8 EL, MSA1000 and 2 Proliant DL 380G3\G4

Ok finally the hosts detect the MSL.
They also detect the NSR1200, i think this is normal, or not? What should the Servers detect?

I don´t know what exactly solve the problem, but after i edit the indexed map and verified that it was correctly filled, i have press the button to make active, the hosts detect as the LTT.

Thanks to all.

Re: MSL6030, NSR E1200, FC 2\8 EL, MSA1000 and 2 Proliant DL 380G3\G4

Artur,

Glad to hear that you've sorted it out.

I usually delete the NSR so that the servers don't see it any more. They do not need this device anyway and it shows up as unknown hardware in the device manager unless you install the driver for it too.

best regards,
Kurt

As i wrote I don´t know what exactly solve the problem, but after i edit the indexed map and verified that it was correctly filled, i had press the button to make the map active, and at the finally hosts detect MSL and is drive as well the LTT.
By the way de OV Data Protector also detect the devices.

Thanks to all for the help, Have a great day
