MSL6030----SCSI cable connection

Hi All,

We have the tape library MSL6030 with NSR e1200-160. We have only one tape drive. I am confused of SCSI cable connection and termination. Can anybody help in this regard.

TIA,
Richard

Re: MSL6030----SCSI cable connection

You'll need a VHDCI SCSI jumper cable from the NSR to the drive, another jumper cable from the drive back to the library controller, and then a VHDCI terminator on the library controller.

The library controller and drive can share one SCSI bus.

The 0.5m VHDCI SCSI jumper cable is pn 231687-002

Re: MSL6030----SCSI cable connection

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. I did as per your "Route" and it's ok now. You owe some points :), but still I cannot inquiry the tape library ( how to test the MSL6030
Ultrium 460 1 drive Tape Library from the HPUX 11.23 Itanium 64 command line). I tried the mc command but failed. Pls see below output:

# mc -p /dev/rscsi/c6t10d0 -r DS
ERROR: 0x5 Illegal Request : 0x2400 Invalid field in
command descriptor block
#

# mc -p /dev/rscsi/c8t7d0 -r DS
ERROR: 0x5 Illegal Request : 0x2400 Invalid field in
command descriptor block

# mc -p /dev/rscsi/c6t10d0 -e DS
ERROR: 0x5 Illegal Request : 0x2400 Invalid field in
command descriptor block

We have installed a MSL6030 Ultrium 460 1 drive Tape Library along with FC option and connnected to a SAN switch. Following are information regarding this.

An error like that typically means you're talking to the wrong type of device.

From your I/O scan, the devices I see with the pass-through driver are:

> DEVICE HP A6189B

I think that's a Virtual Array (not a tape library). I don't see the Library Robotics. It should show up as:
HP MSL6000 Series

You should also have the tape drives as:
HP Ultrium 2-SCSI

I suspect you have not logged into the NSR bridge and created a map (which allows hosts to see the devices on the router). If that's the case, you should open up the NSR user manual.

The journey IS the reward.
