Microsoft RSM reports write protected device
I moved a SCSI Sun tape backup device to a Windows 2000 server. Found that it was a C1537a 4mm 12/24 dds3 device. Tried to use W2K backup but every tape say's "Write Protected" when I try to prepare the tape. This device works fine with other shareware backup software. Microsoft knowledge base say's "Contact HP for a firmware upgrade? What firmware should I use??? Thanks

Re: Microsoft RSM reports write protected device
If it was an HP branded DDS3 drive, or an HP trade-ready drive, then HP LTT (www.hp.com/support/tapetools) should recognize it and be able to update it to latest firmware.
The journey IS the reward.

Re: Microsoft RSM reports write protected device
You may want to check the jumpers as it may need reconfiguring for Windows ( I assume you had Sun Solaris or similar ?)

Hi Robert,
Run L&TT from the link below, and upgrade the firmware and run diagnostics.
