New Tape Unit and Software

I recently installed a new Sony Tape unit as our old unit - compaq has died twice. The new unit takes all night to back up 45Gigs of data as our old unit took 2 hours. I installed the free Veritas 10d that came with the drive and still takes that long. Any idea on why so long now. I am using the same tapes and have a like Sony tape unit in our recovery server. It takes an hour to catalog a tape now in the recovery unit where it used to take 5-10 minutes. I am thinking it must not recognize the tape right?

Re: New Tape Unit and Software

Some more details would be useful - common operating systems here in the forums are HP-UX, windows, openvms, tru64, linux ...

What OS do you use? What hardware platform? What bus type? ...

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: New Tape Unit and Software

The one server (Utility) is a ML350 Win 2000 server 1 Ghz Sony 450 SCSI connection AIT1 tape unit.
The other (Recovery) is a d530 with Win 2003 server 2.6Ghz and Sony SDX-420C AIT1 IDE connection.

I am thinking it is the software setting.
I just ran a catalog request and it used to take 10-15 minutes and is at about 2 hours now for 45gig tape.

Re: New Tape Unit and Software

Windows 2000 server using Veritas 8.6 software w\1 remote agent to another wndows 2000 server using the admin user and password.

The tapes used to run for 2-3 hours before using the new drive.
Have tryed any and all combinations of buttons.
Uninstalled and reinstalled the program.
Program never seemed to work good from the beginning (2002). tryed to upgrade and have issues so reloaded the old version.

Tried to install NovaStor, Backup, and CA Brightstor and none working.

Tape unit is installed right and shows under devices and it Does backup but takes 10-12 hours for 40 gigs.

Re: New Tape Unit and Software

It must have been a software setting.
Updated the software and reset Veritas settings and unit does work faster.
