New tape drive installation

I've just recieved the initiative to install these simple 2gb external dat tape drives to our old E25 servers. I've connected it, but am unsure where to go from here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Chet

Re: New tape drive installation

Hi Chet,

The place to start would to establish whether the hardware can be seen by the operating system.

Login as root
# ioscan -fn

If your unsure what to look for, post a copy of the output.

Re: New tape drive installation

Hello,

We have 2 DDS drives connected to our E25.

You should connect them, make sure they are on different SCSI IDs if they are on the same SCSI bus as the rest of the peripherals (which should be the case if you connected it internal), ioscan -fnC tape when you boot to check whether it is claimed, and you should be ok. If no tape is found, enter the tape2 driver in the kernel by using SAM.

SCSI IDs for tape drives usually range from 3 downwards.
