Next Gen LTO

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone out there knew when (approximately) the Next generations of LTO technology (IE: 5/6) are due for release?

Ive had a look at the LTO website, but they are not mentioning any dates, so not really sure when they could be hitting the market!

Hi Jason,

Looking at the dates of the previous generations, I'd guess it will be at least a couple of years before we get Generation 5 devices.

If you look at this page:

http://www.lto.org/technology/ugen.php?section=0&subsec=ugen

there's generally a two year gap between the various generations.

In actual fact, it may end up being longer. That page states that the LTO-4 spec was available in December 2006. [hp] LTO-4 drives didn't appear until the start of September 2007...
