Off line spare tape drive

Dear All,
What is Off line spare tape drive, and where its used .I am having MSL5000 Tape library can it be used there.

Don't understand the question. Where do you have an "Offline spare drive".

Thanks for the response, actually its a spare drive which can be replaced once the existing one start giving problem.
