Hello, I recently bought used HPE LTO-5 FH SAS drive, here is identity for it (generated by LTT utility):
Product ID : HP Ultrium 5-SCSI [FULL-HEIGHT]
Format : LTO-5 (w/r), LTO-4 (w/r), LTO-3 (r)
Firmware : I6CZ/OEM (Ver 018.411, Date 2014/02/04-15:31)
SKU number : AQ273F#900_
Serial number: Confidential Info Erased
Type : Fibre Channel
First, Im not exactly sure what is commercial name for this drive but suspect that is "Ultrium 5 3280".
Second, I unable to update a firmware that I feel is outdated. If the drive is Ultrium 5 3280 than appropriate update file should be cp031432.exe or cp030021.exe that I was able to obtain from the server SPP disk. Both utilities don't work and end up with message "No operation was performed. You may look at the setup log file for more details if desired.Press the 'Close' button to exit Setup." The log file (located C:\cpqsystem\log) contains just following:
Name: HPE StoreEver Tape Firmware for Microsoft Windows
New Version: 4.2.0.0
Determining component installation state...
- Is operating system supported...
Operating System IS Supported
- Is necessary disk space available...

- Is hardware present...

- Is component already installed... Component NOT already installed
- Is component marked for removal... Component NOT marked for removal
- Installed component version status... Component version is Older
- Checking dependency list... Done.
The software is not installed on this system, but is supported for installation.
Default option (upgrade all) selected.
No operation was performed.
The firmware files extracted from the both utilities all have *.E extension that is not compatible with LTT firmware utility that requires *.FRM extensions for firmware upgrade files. I also is not eligible for the built-in LTT online firmaware procedure that is requires a token for the warranty linked to the product that I obviosuly don't have since I'm even not sure about product name and whether updated firmware exist.
So, please HELP!
1) Identify a product
2) Obtain newest firmware

SolutionHi
you say its SAS but it says its a FC drive and the firmware is FC firmware.
based on that firmware it is a HPE branded Quantum drive so wouldnt be found on LTT and you cant change it yourself.
basically you have a drive from a Quantum i500 or a i6000

Re: Please help to identify and firmware upgrade LTO-5 SAS drive
Oh, you right, typo. It is FC of course.
I have suspected that is Quantum. However their StorageCare software does not recognise the drive while HP's LTT does.
Any idea what to do further?

Re: Please help to identify and firmware upgrade LTO-5 SAS drive
HPE LTT generally will detect most HPE based drives wether it has HPE firmware or not. as for why it doesnt detect the drive in StorageCare im not sure, i havend used it before, it may be the case that it will only detect a drive through a tape library.

Re: Please help to identify and firmware upgrade LTO-5 SAS drive
FYI, I contacted Quantum from which I was able to obtain latest I6RZ F/W that was supposed for HP OEM drive and it was in *.frm format suitable for LTT, so I successfully updated my drive. Many thanks HP and Quantum for the support)
