Preinitialized LTO-7 Type M Media
Are Q2078MN tapes preinitialized as LTO-7 Type M (9TB native / 22.5TB compressed), or does this need to be done in a tape library?
The specifications say "LTO-8 Type M LTO-7 Initialized"
But the box contains a sheet similar to the following pdf, with the text
"Initializing LTO-7 Type M cartridgesLTO-7 Type M cartridges are initialized the first time they are accessed by an LTO-8 drive within an automation environment that supports Type M"

Re: Preinitialized LTO-7 Type M Media
LTO-7 Type M cartridges must be initialized in a library that supports LTO-7 Type M.
The library makes the decision on the type of cartridge based upon the cartridge bar code – if the last two characters
are “M8” it will be initialized as Type M, otherwise it will be initialized as a normal LTO-7 cartridge

Re: Preinitialized LTO-7 Type M Media
As the previous response indicated, Type M tapes have to be initialized in a tape library that supports initialization of Type M tapes. For HPE tape libraries, any tape library that supports LTO-8 also supports Type M and uses the barcode to determine if a tape should be initialized as Type M.
These tapes come pre-labeled with a barcode that indicates they should be initialized as Type M and using them in an HPE LTO-8 tape library will initialize them to the Type M capacity.
