Private loop device didn't acquire it hard address

Plugging in 6 tape drives into 6 HBA AB379 ports results in 6 errors.
Hard Address is 0x0 but acquired AL_PA is 0x2.
System won't be able to see LUNs behind this device port.

If I plug the same drives into a Sun x4600 is see the tape drives/lun and create and /dev/rmt files.

Looks like a configuration error - AL_PA 0 is reserved for a potential loop's FL_Port (that is a switch port).

You don't give much information about your hardware and software setup - for example what tape drives are these? Where does the error message come from?

Re: Private loop device didn't acquire it hard address

They are HP LTO4 drives shipped from Sun. I guess these are also known as Ultrium 1840s though I have not successfully found documentation in regard to fibre support drives. The errors are from the syslog of the host, HP Integrity server running 11.23.

Stripping the timestamp from the log I get these messages

0/0/2/1/0: private loop device didn't acquire its hard address:
Hard Adress is 0x0, but acquired AL_PA is 0x2.
System won't be able to see LUNSs behind this device port.
It appears that there are (or were) more than once device with the same address setting.
Then a note about chaning the address settings on the devices.
