Problem with HP DAT24 (C1537A) & Windows 2K & 2K3
Any suggestions to help me get an external HP SureStore DAT24 SCSI tape drive (C1537A) working with Windows 2000 or 2003 servers?
SCSI adapter is the built-in Adaptec 7892 on a Dell Poweredge 6600 server. Other SCSI devices work fine off these servers and adapters.
Tape drive is properly terminated. Tap edrive is only SCSI device.
Drivers for tape drive and adapter are current. Other known good tape drive (exact same make & model) shows same symptoms.
Within backup apps (BrightStor & Veritas) , media is shown as busy after first action (eject, retension, etc.)
App may become non-responsive, and require task manager to end.
Thanks in advance.

if you are using 3rd party backup apps, try disabling removable storage in windows services

Thanks. I'll try that. I also read that I should try limiting the amount of memory used by the server, with a /MAXMEM switch in BOOT.INI. Stay tuned.

Still no success -- limited memory with /maxmem, and disabled removeable storage service. Same results -- third party backup app cannot read the tape. It shows as interminably (sp?) busy after inserting the media.
