Reading Scorpion 40 tapes on Surestore 40

I have an HP Surestore 40 tape drive. I also have 2 Seagate (Certance) Scorpion 40 tape drives. The HP tape drive can't read the tapes written by the Seagate tape drives. It can read the first several thousand bytes and then everything after that is 0s. I've turned off hardware compression on all of the tape drives. What can I do to fix this?
