Regarding HP88780 tape drive

Hi Guys

I am facing problem while reading tape drive with dd command on RHEL 4.0 operating system.
Tape is connected to adaptec 7800 series SCSI card.

After executing command tape initiazes and give the following error

dd:reading '/dev/st0': input/output error
0+0 records in
0+0 records out

If anyone knows please give the solution
