Restore SCSI to IDE?

Is there any way to do a One-Button restore of a SCSI boot disk backup to an IDE replacement?
I want to replace my SCSI drive with a larger EIDE drive?

I am using WINXP and Tapeware 6.3

Hi there.
Not that simple.
You should do these steps, if you want to boot from ide disk :
- backup scsi disk to tape / cd
- disconnect scsi disk
- put IDE disk in place and connect it
- install minimum system and tape ware
- don't forget to request new key from MS
- restore system from tape / cd to ide disk
- test your system
- if ok connect scsi disk and set boot option in bios to hdd0 ( not scsi not cdrom )
- partition and format your scsi disk. so that you can use it



to boot from scsi disk :
- backup scsi disk to tape / cd
maybe create an image ( depending on the size )
- partition and format ide disk
- copy your important data from scsi disk to ide disk
- repartition and format your scsi disk
i would suggest 4 GB for the system only.
USE THIS PRIMARY PARTITION FOR THE SYSTEM ONLY !

- install system and tape ware on primary partition

- reinstall your programs

Any programs should NOT be installed on this partition of your disk.Install any programs ( except tape ware ) on the next partition.

- restore your DATA from tape / cd

i would prefer the second way, because this will give you a clean system.
This concept will also speed up your system.
If you could give us details about the size of the disks, we maybe able to help a little bit further on.
Question : why not buy more SCSI disk ?

My current SCSI disk is 36 GB
I am planning on migrating to a new system that has 120 GB. I used to have SCSI CDR, Scanner, DVD, etc - The new system is all EIDE - I have an Adaptec 2940U2W that I will keep to run the DAT24.

Hi Maurice.
Some more ideas :

On SCSI disk :
- Primary partition 10 GB for the system
and necessary utilities
if you are ready with this, create an image
on a bootable cd for emergencies

- next partition 26 GB for prgrams

On IDE disk ( 120 GB )

- split in 20 GB partitions
in case you have to defrag these partitions,
it will not take all day.

- use these partitions just as you like it.
you could also install several operating
system like Linux, Beos etc on this machine
as well

Remember, the larger you make the partitions,
the larger the blocks on the partiotion will be. That means for a file of 20 bytes you would use 32kB of your disk. This can be extreme on the new filesystems.
