SAN attach a single DLT drive

I am going to setup a lab with some old equipment I have at work.
I have a Compaq fibre channel tapecontroller 2, a RA4100 "storagebox" and an old Storageworks fibre channel AL switch.
These works just fine, I can see them all in the loop and have disks distributed to the servers.
BUT as tape storage, I have only one external 15/30 GB DLT. Is it possible to attach this drive to the tape controller to work as a SAN attached storage device?
The FCTC2 is SCSI Diff and the drive single ended.

As I said, it is just for lab, but it would be nice if it worked.

Thank you,
Fredrik

Re: SAN attach a single DLT drive

Hi,
Is the FCTC High Voltage Differential (HVD) or Low Voltage Differential (LVD). If HVD it will NOT work but if LVD it is compatible with SE.

Re: SAN attach a single DLT drive

You are absolutely right...
It is a HVD FCTC.

Thank you for your answer.

Re: SAN attach a single DLT drive

As all fibrechannel tape controllers are HVD
(only MDR and NSR have LVD option) you will need a converter from hvd -> lvd .

Even then, using disks and tapes on the same FCAL is a problem child. Because secondairy storage is not able to handle FCAL errors properly. This typically is a problem when using hubs, the problem will be smaller on a FCAL Switch (as it creates dedicated looplets)
