SCSI Commands And DRTape Pointers

I am developing a disaster recovery interface to be used with Compaq DRTape-Ready tape devices. (1) Is there a SCSI command to check a tape drive if it is DRTape-Ready? (2) For NT/2000 systems, is there anything I should be aware of to optimize interactions with Compaq's DRTape-Ready tape devices; i.e., timing, performance, imaging, boot records, bootable catalogs etc...?
