SCSI Width Negotiation

The SCSI physical width on the heads of the DDT library are 16 bits wide however they are only negotiating 8 bit width. This is reducing backup times. The hardware has the latest firm ware upgrades, does anyone know of how to get the hardware to negotiate to 16 bit ? Thanks in advance
