SDLT 110/220 GB AND NTBACKUP

I have recently installed a SDLT tape onto a Proliant ML570. The Unit is connected to a PCI SCSI Contoller (Adaptec Ultra 160). The unit was originally attached to a Proliant 5000, using the same card and ARCServe as the backup media.

We are using NTBackup to backup the Exchange Database, but since the unit has been attached we get the following error:

"Backup Status

Tape Name: "Tape created on 8/6/03"
Backup of "OrgName\Isle of Man\COMSTORE\Directory"
Backup set #1 on tape #1
Backup description: "DAILY EXCHANGE IOM "
Backup Method: Normal

Backup started on 8/6/03 at 8:15:44 PM.
Backup completed on 8/6/03 at 8:18:53 PM.
Processed 383,795,582 bytes in 3 minutes and 9 seconds.

Tape Name: "Tape created on 8/6/03"
Backup of "OrgName\Isle of Man\COMSTORE\Information Store"
Backup set #2 on tape #1
Backup description: "DAILY EXCHANGE IOM "
Backup Method: Normal

Backup started on 8/6/03 at 8:18:53 PM.
Drive 1 does not contain a tape.
Backup completed on 8/7/03 at 6:36:19 AM.
Processed 76,541,196,122 bytes in 10 hours, 15 minutes, and 35 seconds."

This seems to happen every other night. Has anyone seen this problem before?

Regards

Steve

Re: SDLT 110/220 GB AND NTBACKUP

Steve,

same problem here, except I am using a DAT 40i internal tape drive with Adaptec Ultra 160 adaptor and NT4.0 (SP6a). The backup seems to run fine at first, then it suddenly stops with the same error message (but of course a tape IS in the drive).

The tape drive is brand new, so I would not expect a hardware error.

Did you find out anything that resolved this problem ?

Re: SDLT 110/220 GB AND NTBACKUP

I have the same problem with a DLT 40/80 drive in a ML530. If I use a cleaning tape, then I can usually make a backup run successfully, but then the next one will fail unless I use a cleaning tape again. Sometimes the cleaning tape will not work either.
