Re: SSL1016 tape autoloader

Hi,

>>Can you provide another scsi (pci) for your tape box?

if not, try to unload oem drivers from device manager then let Arcerve provide a driver for your autoloader.

>>Check if your backup software can still be suppoted under 2003, otherwise you should upgrade it to version 11 or latest .

Hope this helps,

Re: SSL1016 tape autoloader

Hi,

For me, you can use either Veritas 9.1 or Brightstor 11r(microsoft certified). Both of them can able to support windows 2003 storage system (VSS, terminal session, on-line backup and more)

Cheers!

Re: SSL1016 tape autoloader

Hi thanks.

The backup software is working fine excpt the Auto loader feature.
I mean when one cartridge is fully consumed the SDLT doesn`t load the next cartridge.
Take Care....

Re: SSL1016 tape autoloader

I'm not sure to understand the problem, is it that you cannot load the next cartridge when the first is full? it seems like you do not put the AL in stacker mode

Re: SSL1016 tape autoloader

Yes ,

both magzines are full with cartridgs.
But even then when the first cartrideg conumes to full , the backup programe seems to hang and does`nt load the next cartridge.

you said something about " stacker mode" where and how we can set it.

Thanks

Re: SSL1016 tape autoloader

You can set the autoloader to either Random, Mixed, Sequential, or Seq Cycle
Mode. The default control mode is Random.

The Sequential mode supports certain backup applications that do not manage
media. During backup, when one cartridge is read or written to the end of the tape,
the autoloader automatically returns that cartridge to its slot and loads the
cartridge from the next higher numbered slot to the tape drive to be read or written
to. This continues until the backup software stops accessing the drive or until all
the cartridges have been sequentially accessed.

In Random control mode you can specify which cartridge you want to use and
where you want it to go. You will probably use this mode the most.
In Mixed mode, the autoloader supports both Sequential and Random mode
functions. This mode can be useful in network environment.

In Seq Cycle mode, the autoloader automatically starts over with magazine slot 1
when the last cartridge is used (slot 16 or highest filled slot). If this control mode
is not set, the autoloader stops when the last cartridge available has been used. In
Seq Cycle mode, the autoloader continues to cycle until a user stops it.

Re: SSL1016 tape autoloader

Has anyone resolved this yet - I have an SSL1016 attached to DL360 (OS Win2k3) by a U320 SCSI controller, running Arcserv 9.0 and have the EXACT same problem.

Re: SSL1016 tape autoloader

We have just realised that the Media Changer and Tape Drive drivers in Microsoft Device Manager are loaded - CA uses it's own drivers so we are about to disable the drivers and see how that goes.
