Slow Performance on new Ultrium LTO 4 Tapes

Hello,

 

Recently we've bought 20 new tapes to supplement the 60 we had.

An issue quickly arose with the new tapes, they're performing at almost half the speed of the older tapes, 70 MB\s vs 40 MB\s. Since the last time we added new tapes is a long time ago, and there's no documentaion of the procedure used then, we have no idea if there was anything special about the initilization procedure.

 

We're using Veeam Backup & Replication to create and write the back up to a HP Storageworks 1/8 G2 Autoloader.

The tapes in question are HP Ultrium LTO 4 C7974A 1.6TB RW tapes.

 

I hope someone can point to a cause of the slow performance.
