Storageworks MLS500 library password recovery

I am looking for a way to do password recovery on Storageworks MLS5000 series library.

I hope that this is an MSL5000 series!

I'm afraid you'll have to call HP Support. If it were possible for a user to reset the password... well, it wouldn't be much of a password, would it?

I would suggest you call HP Support as we need the current information from the library to generate the temporary password to reset the admin password.

MLS500, MLS5000 or even MSL5000???

MSL5000/MSL6000:

You can use mslutil (from web), connect via serial line and set the password.

On page 109 of the HP StorageWorks MSL5000 and MSL6000 Series Tape Libraries User Guide, you will find this note.

Note: The default level 1 password is 1. The default level 2 password is 2. The level 1
password only allows use of passive features, such as viewing library status.
Use the MSLUtil.exe diagnostic utility and the serial interface to change the default
passwords.

If that doesn't work then contact HP, there is no charge for this service. They will require current information from library in order to reset lost passwords.
