Streamer HPC5683A

Using Veritas 7.3 under WIN NT4 SP6 with streamer HPC5683A.
Backup job starts at 10:45 pm, tape was already inserted at office hours before. Job hangs next morning with message 'tape not recognized', tape is thrown out. By messagelog tape was thrown out 5 min after starting backup.
When same tape is inserted at morning once more the job runs fine. This malfunction repeats each day with various tapes and we can't find an error. The system worked a long time correct until it changed to this behaviour, without having changed anything. Did somebody had similar problems?

Hi - it sounds like the issue is not with the dat40 dds4 streamer, but rather with:

which tape is inserted, as jobs tend to want a speciffic tape on a speciffic day and that would also explain the 5 min timeout of the busw - it was waiting for correct media...
and/or
the media pool setup.....as the overwrite protection settings and general setup of the media set can affect the bu too, besides that also the age of the media, as older tapes would be removed from the mediapool by the sw automatically.

To be able to help you more, it would help to actually have one of the logs of backup exec to confirm my suspisions.

one thing.... i'm not sure the 7.3 version supports the dat40 - pls check with veritas, the 8.0 version does for sure.
