Stuck media

Hi everyone,

I have just setup new backup system. Here is my backup system specifications:
- Tape library DLT 8000.
- Backup software OmniBack 4.1

Now, I am facing a problem when dealing /w stuck DLT tapes.

The tape cartridge was stuck in drive. I could not unloaded it automatically by front panel.

The error message appeared like this: "Drive may have dropped leader or tape snapped"

Then I have to unload tape manually step by step following product guide-document (attachment files).

But after that, drive can not load tape-cartridge again.

An error called "New Information Media Available" appear.

Any suggest about my problem?

I don't want to change a new drive because a lot of drivers has been changed before :-(

Thanks in advanced,

Re: Stuck media

the error message said "dropped leader or tape snappe"
-Did you check your cartridge before to insert them in the library? be shure they are ok
-Did you check your drive if the leader is attached?

Re: Stuck media

Hi.
I think, has problem with your hardware. May be you need to upgrade the firmware for the robotic. Can contact to HP to get support.
You also can try reboot the Lib because Sometime the movement of the robotic has problem!
If can not post again.
I will show you how to fix!

Re: Stuck media

Hi Jimkery,

I downloaded and upgraded the latest firmware version for both tape library 2/20 and dlt drive 8000.

When tape cartridge was stuck, I had just tried to reboot tape library.

Beside, I has tried to use "Unload urgent immediately tape cartride" from administration menu from front panel.

But no solution above can fix the problems.

Any helps,

Thanks.

Re: Stuck media

Hi Hung.
Very strange!
but I wonder that this error usually happen?
I have another solution for you:
By using the command:
ioscan -fnC autoch
and then using this command:

uma -ioctl ---->robotic driver.
for example: uma -ioctl /dev/rac/c7t10d1
you will see this:

*** PROGRAM: UMA VERSION: HP OpenView OmniBack II A.04.10

*** Copyright (C) 1996 Hewlett-Packard Company
*** License is restricted for use with licensed
*** HP OpenView OmniBack II products.

/dev/rac/c7t10d1>

type help command to get more information.

using : move to unload the tape.

If can not unload, call to HP service! There is no way to fix, may be the hardware has problem.

Goodluck to you.

Re: Stuck media

Hi Cong,

Operating system is not HP-UX.
However, I used some command from OmniBack software to check device path of. It is OK!

In fact, I call HP service for supporting my problems. But final solution that is warranty. Many drive has been changed :-(

If you have lots of experience in this area, and if not inconvenient to you, pls send me your phone # or email. We will discuss about this more.
