Suported OS platforms for tape libraries

Hello guys.
I would like to know what are supported OS platforms for tape libraries MSL4048 and 1/8 Ultrium 960 Tape Autoloader.
Does anyone know where Can I find these informations?

Thanks.

The Enterprise Backup Solution Compatibility Matrix at:

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/techdoc/ebs/EBSMatrix-1006.pdf

should help you.

Hi,
I know this web site, but it is not useful for me. I cannot find out which are supported OS platforms for mentioned libraries.

Re: Suported OS platforms for tape libraries

Unfortunately, it's not quite as simple as that... Given a version of a backup software package supports a certain type of library and is runnable on an OS/version, you still have to ensure that the HBAs are compatible and have new enough firmware. It gets even more complicated with SAN-attached tape libraries - adding in the SAN switches, the FC to SCSI bridge device, and the firmware running in them. That's why the matrix is as complicated as it is.

Re: Suported OS platforms for tape libraries

OK,
I want to be sure.
I am thinking about following configurations:
1. Redhat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 4.0 (64-bit) (x64) with MSL 2024 (or MSL4048)
2. Linux Debian 3.0 with HP 1/8 Ultrium 960 Tape Autoloader

Is it supported?
Thanks.

Re: Suported OS platforms for tape libraries

Ok, I think you might be looking at this the wrong way...

1st: What servers will these be running on? Proliant DL's?

2nd: What software do you plan to use for Backup?

3rd: Are you looking to create a Central Backup Environment or want to keep individual servers separate and their backup (and backup devices) separate?

RHEL3 and 4 support all of the devices you mentioned. RHEL5 should as well. Not sure about Debian, but would think it would as well.

Re: Suported OS platforms for tape libraries

Hi.
1. There will be Proliant server.
2. I plan to use DP 6.0.
3. There will be central backup server (RHEL) with MSL4048 and one server (Debian) with HP Autoloader.

Re: Suported OS platforms for tape libraries

I do not see any issues with "os support" for the 4048. I am not at all familiar with Debian to comment, but I would expect that the autoloader would work just as well.

Will these devices be directly attached? or SAN Attached?

I just finished a DP6 Linux Cell Server installation so it is fresh in my head. Ask any questions you wish and I will try to answer.

Re: Suported OS platforms for tape libraries

The devices will be directly attached, there is no SAN.
