SureStore DAT 24: cleaning light goes on every 3 backup

I have an internal HP SureStore DAT 24. Recently, the "clean" led began to go on and the backup began to fail. After putting the cleaning tape, the backups went ok for 3 or 4 times and then failed again with the "clean" led on. It's been going on for a few weeks now.
What's your advice? Do I replace it or is it possible that I fix this problem?

Simon,

download the HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools diagnostic from this site.
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html
After you run it and it sees your tape drive, choose Utilities and Run Script from the Menu bar. Browse for script called ddswriterecal.ssc and run this script on your drive. It can only be done once but may give you some more life out of your drive.
