SureStore E SCSI Bridge FC 4/2

Currently we have a tape library that is connected directly to an HP9000 N Class. We are considering connected the FC Bridge to a switch so that the tape library can be connected to a Win2K cluster.

Essentially, we will have a tape library that will be shared throught a switch by an HP and a Win2K cluster. Can this be done? Will special Windows drivers need to be installed on the cluster to enable it to talk to the bridge?

Hi,
Yes, you can do it. you need any of the HBA supported by HP with their respective drivers, and I think no more else.

Be carefull, if you attach a tape into a SAN, to configure all in fabric login.
Be carefull also, if you are looking for attach disks in the same SAN, install before Secure Manager if these disks are from HP and AutoPath or something similar if these server will have more than one HBA each.

David,

Thank you for your reply. Could you elaborate more on 'HBA'?

Hi, HBA is Host bus adapter.

Is Fibre Channel Card on server.

And you can use Agilent D8602A/B, Qlogin cards and some others.

Best luck

Hi,

Be really careful when you plug in your
WIN/NT stuff. It will try and *take* over
your whole tape library and could possibly
do a SCSI reset on all of the internal
devices within the library. Make sure that
when you do this that you know how to reset
your library properly, and try to have no
backups running at this time.
