"Failed to move after finding the translate home position: timed out on command sent to transport controller"
We now find that we can access the library ok and move tapes to the drives and back from the command line, but we can not clear the hard error status on the library.
we have tried running the following from the test menu :
Recalibrate Library (library prompts to do
this to clear the logged hard error)
Wellness Test
Check Inventory
In each instance we just get "Transport reserved or in use - test failed"
Any ideas ? ?

How about a simulated power failure?

Re: Surestore 2/20 tape library - Hard Error - Transport reserved or in use
This would be a last resort on this particular system, but don't think that it hadn't already crossed my mind !!
Thanks,
Ian.

Re: Surestore 2/20 tape library - Hard Error - Transport reserved or in use
I should have known. Unfortunately, that's the only thing that's crossed my mind.
Good luck,
Pete

Or, an earthquake, where the unit somehow rocks over and crashes to the floor?
Or, call HP?
live free or die

Re: Surestore 2/20 tape library - Hard Error - Transport reserved or in use
if it fails after this, log a support call and give them the REPORT page from the RMC card web interface. it will include enough info for a tech to come & sort it out.
cheers

SolutionThe only way to force clearing the reservation is to reset the library to factory defaults under the admin functions. If you left the SCSI id's, mailslot size, and other settings at factory defaults, then this is easy. If you changed any of those you need to go back and reset them all to the values you want after resetting the defaults.
After the defaults have been set the the "Recalibrate Library" test should be able to clear the hard error status.
After you have cleared the hard error status you should update your library firmware to 1.52 which has fixes for the problem you had. It is also a good idea to run 100 loops of the "Full Sweep" test after updating firmware. "Full Sweep" is not available in the front panel with pre 1.51 firmware so you have to run the Library and Tape Tools "Full Sweep" test, or you have to remove all magazines and run 1000 loops of the front panel "Translate Test".
