Surestore 818, Arcserve very slow, HELP
I have run out of ideas to fix this. Only getting 40M per minute transfer speed, around 15 hours to backup 35G.
The setup is:
OS NT server with SP6
Arcserve 2000 with SP3 Build 1078
Compaq Proliant 3000 6/500 (dual processor) with 512Mb RAM
Compaq Raid 5 array etc
Adaptec 2940U2B BIOS V2.20 using latest sp3 driver (this card is for the tape library only)
HP Surestore 818 (with latest BIOS, and recently serviced by HP)
HP Tapetools tests say its OK
HP speed test program says its running at 9M/sec
Compression is turned off
Have tried different media makes with no difference.
We are just trying to backup a partition on this server no remote backups.
Disk is not fragmented
Backup starts off at 500M per minute and slowly decreases to 40M per minute.
Have search the internet for ever and tried anything I have found.

Re: Surestore 818, Arcserve very slow, HELP
Hi
What kind of data do you back up ? If you have a very large number of small files this will decrease performance.
Can you monitor CPU and disk/filesystem load when backup is running ?
Have you tested with hardware compression on ?
