TL891 not auto loading tapes

We have a TL891 mini library system. When removing tapes from the magazine, if we use the same slot as one that was previously used, the auto leader finds the tape. If we use a slot that was previously empty according to Backup Exec, the auto leader does not find the tape. It is as if when the door is closed, the taking inventory' is auctioned, but the inventory is not working. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.
