Tape Drive Installation Procedures

Hi All,

I am having trouble installing the DAT 40 tape drive.

The tape drive was detected after I did the follwong procedures:-

1) Changed the SCSI ID on the array drive.
2) Rebooted the HP-UX system
3) After the complete reboot I could see the tape drive in IOSCAN and Kernel Drivers(See attached.)

The Problem :

The tape disapered from SAM (Backup and Recovery - see screen shot )the next following day.

But I can still see it in IOSCAN and Kernel Drivers.

Your prompt solution will be highly appreciated.

Thank you

BR

Re: Tape Drive Installation Procedures

Hi,

run

ioscan -fn
or
ioscan -fnCtape

to check the device files.
Use "insf -eCtape" or SAM to create them if needed.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Tape Drive Installation Procedures

Sorry I forgot to mention the Tape Drive DAT40 (HPStorage Works) is connected to SCSI Tape Array 5300.

I know that the system has identified "ftape" but is it reqired to rebuild the kernel or should I restart the whole server again.

Thanks in advance
Torsten.

Re: Tape Drive Installation Procedures

Hi Torsten,

I have attached all the screen shots including IOSCAN in my first post.

Please download and extract it. I have used the latest WinRar to compress them. (You can get it from rarlab.com)

Re: Tape Drive Installation Procedures

Looks good, does it work now?

What server model do you have and what is the OS version?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Tape Drive Installation Procedures

Ignore SAM for the moment.

Can you access the drive from the command line? Can 'tar' write to and read from the drive? What about fbackup from the command line (that is what SAM uses by the way)? If things work from the command line, then forget about SAM, read the fbackup man page and do your backup that way.
