Re: Tape Drive Installation Procedures

Your connection looks good, see

http://www.hp.com/products1/storage/compatibility/tapebackup/PA-RISC/Detail/16-0013-0003.html#CONTROLLERS

How about the terminator?

Try to write to the tape drive,
e.g.

tar -c /etc/hosts

(if the device file is /dev/rmt/0m)

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Tape Drive Installation Procedures

Hi All,

I have changed the scsi ID to 4 and restarted the server again.

Normally HP recommends Cable Parno:C2979B (1.5 mts) to be used on these tape arrays. and I am using C2924c (2.5mts). Normally scsi controllers supports over 10 mts. Do you thing its the cable issue thats causing this error. Its funny it showed the Tape Drive in SAM and dissapeared the Next Day.

I am desperate to backup the whole system...

We have tried every thing in the book...or have we?

Re: Tape Drive Installation Procedures

Hi All,

Ok I rebooted the Server and changed the SCSI ID back to 4. As usual the tape drive appears in the SAM and I am able to access it last night.

I did "make_recovery -A -v " and completed sucessfully.

This morning. went and tried to acess the Tape Drive...it magically disappears again.

Same issues as before....

Any Idea about it...I cannot reboot every time just to get the tape up and running...

Is it because of cable or the drive?
