Tape\Drive compatibility

Hi,
my client uses Data Protector 5.0 on Windows NT4.0 (Cell Manager), library MSL5026SL with 1 drive SDLT 110/220. I have a question. Is this drive compatible with 160/320 tapes? Can I use the tape 160/320 in drive SDLT 110/220? I'm trying it but DP gives me by formatting the message "Cannot open device [21]. The device is not ready." Is there a problem with Data Protector, or uncompatibility between tape-drive?

I've read in docs "The new SDLT 320 offers the same backward-read compatibility to current DLT tape drives as the SDLT 110/220, but is also write-compatible with the SDLT 110/220 AND UTILIZES THE SAME SDLT1 MEDIA AND CLEANING CARTRIDGE." But is also SDLT 110/220 compatible with 160/320 tapes?

Have somebody an experience with this?

Thnx for responses.

Re: Tape\Drive compatibility

Thank you for link Shaikh,
if I used 110/220GB tapes everything was ok. But there are problems with 160/320GB tapes now. I'll look for a patch to Data Protector.

Re: Tape\Drive compatibility

Hi,

SDLT tape1 utilized two kinds of format (110 gb for SDLT220 and 160 for SDLT320)
In order for you to maximize sdlt tape 1 to 160 capacity, you have to use or upgrade your existing 220 drives to 320 model.

Some media manufacturers label there sdlt media 1 as "320" but this will still depend on what kind of sdlt format you have (sdlt220 or 320).
