Tape Stuck - 40/80GB DLT Compaq

Hopefully Lewis F. is around!
I've had 2 of these drives have tapes get stuck inside. We replaced the last one, but now the refurb drive is doing the same thing. When the drive is powered on, the lights just start flashing and it sounds like it's trying to rewind the tape (no tape is actually wound in though, the tape cartridge just won't eject)
It repeats that for quite awhile and eventually will give up and just flash all the lights.

Hi Lewis-Finch and/or anyone eles who can provide info:

I have a tape stuck in an External Compaq AIT 50 Tape drive and would like to know if anyone has documentation to manually remove tape. I tried powering down and resetting, holding eject button etc..., now I don't even have any indication that there's power to the drive no LED light on anymore. I'm going to remove drive this weekend but need to know how to manual perform steps to remove tape from drive.
