Re: Tape device Status is NO_HW

Tape in DVD drive?

...

;-)

However, NO_HW means it was there, but it is no longer visible.

Hope this helps!

Re: Tape device Status is NO_HW

Check if the tape drive is powered on and connected. Check cable for bent pins. Check for terminator.

Hope this helps!

Re: Tape device Status is NO_HW

I have 2 driver in disk array. Its working fine in one driver and another driver has a problem to detect a tape (NO_HW)

In that server i got an error message in dmesg is

SCSI Ultra320 1/0/14/1/1 instance 5: Domain Validation failed, device offline. Target ID = 5.

The above mentioned error will cause a problem or not.can u guide me further..

Re: Tape device Status is NO_HW

The message "Domain Validation failed, device offline. Target ID = 5." is pretty cryptic but what it means is that the HBA saw errors on the cable and tried using a slower speed but the error rate was too high at the slowest speed.

There is a problem somewhere in the bus, usually that means a damaged cable. Maybe somebody tripped over it if it external or it could be a failed terminator. Most of the time this error is some sort of damaged cabling.

Re: Tape device Status is NO_HW

Replace the cable. Reboot the server to reset the host adapter. Run tape software diagnostics to see if you have a bad tape drive.
