Tape eject when inserted

We have a Compaq ProLiant ML330 running NetWare 5.0 and ARCserve 6.6 with a Compaq 12/24 Dat drive (Firmware: 4.05).

When we insert a tape it is automatically ejected after few seconds. But if we reinsert the tape once or twice more it stays in and the backup job completes successfully. This doesn't always happen but sometimes with different tapes, which are new.

What can we do about this?
If I need a firmware update, where can I find it?
