Tape unit HP6400 2000 DC
Hi!,
I have a HP9000 E-35 server with HP 9.04.
This server has a tape external module, whose model is HP6400 2000 DC.
I have many problems with this tape unit.
Before I had to clean it every 15 days.
After I had to clean it every 10 days.
Now, I had to clean it every 2 days, because the clean led, so request me it.
The problem is that the tape unit damages the tape until the point that the application that runs over this server gives a message "Error for manage the device".
Would you help me, please?.
Thank you!!

Re: Tape unit HP6400 2000 DC
I do remember these units from years gone by. There are still some people that repair these. You'll have to find one, as it looks as though the heads are gone on yours.
Anyone for a Mutiny ?

Re: Tape unit HP6400 2000 DC
Like all tape devices, the movement of tape across the heads and through the drive causes wear. This is a VERY old drive and it may not be possible to repair or replace the unit. A newer drive will read the old tapes and write on higher density tapes (more data).

Re: Tape unit HP6400 2000 DC
Hi,
Thi tape unit has about 1 year operating without a problem.
It is a long time?
Other problem is:
When I can't read the tape from application.
Then I try to read it from O.S., but I get the next message:
Tar: blocksize = 1
directory checksum error
I don't know What's happening with the tape?
Thank you!!
