The device, \Device\Tape0, has a bad block.

We can't seem to get our tape drive to work! We are running NT 4.0 Server on a Compaq Proliant 800. When Backup Exec 7.3 tries to load the media, we keep getting: "The device, \Device\Tape0, has a bad block." in our Event Viewer. Can Someone Please Help!!! Thanks! :)

Jesse,
what is the tape drive? Who is manufacturer? Product number? Which tapes do you use? Which SCSI HBA you have drive connected to? Are there any other devices on the bus? Did it ever work?

Re: The device, \Device\Tape0, has a bad block.

Somtimes this means the read of the first block came up with either an unexpected block size or a tape mark. You might try an erase of the tape, reinit, or write a medium-large block of garbage. We use 8196 bytes.

Best is if you examine the first read to see what it is, and also a tape utility to dump the first block to examine it.
