Ultrium 230 external shows empty
I have an LTO Ultrium 230 external drive connected to a Windows 2000 server. When the tape is changed the drive continues to show as empty in the Physical Locations section of Removable Storage Management. Of course, the backup fails as no media is available. Ejecting and re inserting the tape, sometimes more than once, solves the problem but it is not desirable to do this each day. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the tape is not being recognized first time? Thanks.

Re: Ultrium 230 external shows empty
Is there a led like 'tape in' on the drive's front panel? If yes, then look at it. If software reports no tape but drive shows tape in then it should not be a drive problem.
Although if there's no such led then you can, after inserting tape unsuccessfully, try checking drive's state by HP LTT http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50128.html and it will tell you if drive senses tape is in.
But if tape is in but LTT and front panel led say no tape then it's drive's problem

Re: Ultrium 230 external shows empty
Just a note to say the problem may be solved. The cmd file to run the backup each night had the tape ejecting after completion. Removed the eject command and manually ejected the tape and inserted a new tape. For 4 days there have been no problems with tape recognition. Cheers.
