Ultrium 448 keeps ejecting tapes.

Ultrium 448 keeps ejecting tapes after about 30 seconds. I've tried 3 other "new" tapes, which work fine in my other Ultrium 448. No matter which tape I insert it spits them out. This happens even when unattached from server.

Is there a way to "reset" the drive to factory specs?

I've flashed the firmware successfully just in case.
Drive is new (placed into service 4/2/09).

the drive or the tape may be damaged, the tape may be incompatible.
You need to run Library and Tape tools (LTT) in order to diagnose the problem, eventualy collect a support ticket just after the drive ejected the tape and attach it here for reviiew

I'm affraid the problem may be with the drive itself, you started to get the error on unloading the tape. and then you where not able to load it anymore.

but you can do some tests:

- try with a brand new cartridge
- try with a cleaning cartrige
- try with a protected cartridge

if any of these load are successfull the problem is probably not with the drive

if no success check if there are any obstruction inside the drive, or part that are hanging around, you may have broken something

also you can try to clear the load area and see if there is dust on some sensor or on the head of the drive
