Ultrium 460 Support on a D370

Hi,

Could I connect an Ultrium 460 to my D370 server via SCSI? - if so what card/cable would I need to order?

If I can't connect via SCSI would it be OK via F/C SAN?

Points waiting!

Cheers

Re: Ultrium 460 Support on a D370

Hi,
Technical it may be possible but there is a performance problem. The Ultrium 460 is capable of transfer rates of 60MB/s and this is mor then the EISA/HSC bus is capable of. There may also be other performance bottlenecks in the system (disk/filesystem and cpu). If you want to use Ultrium 460 drives you should connect it to a faster system and back up your slower computers over the network (and back up with concurrecy=several filesystems in paralell).

To use the drive on a D class you need a HSC or EISA LVD/SE SCSI card. I couln not find any on the Unix connectivity page but it may exist.

Re: Ultrium 460 Support on a D370

James, Leif,

I'd be very surprised if there was a LVD/SE SCSI card for D/R-class systems.

Only option would be a FC card and FC-SCSI bridge/router, but I doubt it is worth that much money for connecting it to the D370.

Apart from probably not being an officially supported config, you might get into some trouble to make it really work (and perform!) as expected.

Hi,

It exists a HVD converter for Ultrium drives.

All,

Many thanks for your replies - appears it would run like a dog with 3 x legs so I will avoid this route and replace the D Class with an RP2470.
