Ultrium 460 read errors
I am having problems with my drive, I can copy data to it fine with no errors. I can read and restore data as well if the backup is not to large.
How much data I can read before I get the errors I'm not sure yet?
Sorry I am really new to tape drives, but I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me, I will start by posting as much info as I can.
I use Redhat Linux EL 2, I've tried using the L&TT but it locks my machine. I am not sure what version to use. I've only tried the redhat version 9 that is in the download section. The enterprise edition is 64arch, which my system is not.
# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 03 Lun: 00
Vendor: HP Model: Ultrium 2-SCSI Rev: F48D
Type: Sequential-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 03
Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 15 Lun: 00
Vendor: COMPAQ Model: PROLIANT 4L6I Rev: 1.86
Type: Processor ANSI SCSI revision: 02
# mt -f /dev/st0 status
SCSI 2 tape drive:
File number=0, block number=0, partition=0.
Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x42 (no translation).
Soft error count since last status=0
General status bits on (41010000):
BOT ONLINE IM_REP_EN
#
# tar cvf /dev/st0 /0
tar: Removing leading `/' from member names
0/file1
0/file2
0/file3
#
# tar dvf /dev/st0
0/file1
0/file2
0/file3
#
So all of that works fine, but like I said if I have a large backup like 145G, then I can do a tar tvf or dvf and it will start listing files. However near the end it starts getting a bunch of input/output errors and it will stop, due to the amount of errors I get.
In /var/log/messages I'll then see this.
kernel: SEQADDR == 0x55
kernel: st0: Error 70000 (sugg. bt 0x0, driver bt 0x0, host bt 0x7).
kernel: st0: Error with sense data: Current st09:00: sense key Unit Attention
kernel: Additional sense indicates Scsi bus reset occurred
kernel: (scsi0:A:3:0): Unexpected busfree in Data-in phase
Can someone please help me?

Re: Ultrium 460 read errors
As your error is intermittent you may have a cable/terminator problem. I suggest you replace both.
