Ultrium Performance

Hello,

I own an Ultrium 448 connected on a Adaptec 29160 Ultra 160 on a Windows XP Pro SP2 1Gb Ram Athlon 64 3400+

Performance annonced by HP is about 108Gb/hour
Performance observed about 6 hours for 40 Gb.

Is anyone to tell me what part of my configuration mistakes? My backup have to be done in 2 hours maximum (timing problem)

Thanks

Les performances annonc├йes par HP sont de +- 108 Gb/heure or il me faut +- 6 heures pour backuper 40 Gb.

Est-ce d├╗ ├а ma config?

Re: Ultrium Performance

this document is very good about Ultrium performance and contains links to numerous tools for testing your tape drive.

Re: Ultrium Performance

Is the SCSI adapter installed in a Server or PC??

Because some PCI slots works on 32 bit.

Re: Ultrium Performance

Bonjour Philippe,

Did you manage to solve your problem? I have a similar problem, so I would be interested in the solution.

I am trying to get an Ultrium 460 to run with an Adaptec 29160 on a DELL E520 Intell Duo Core, 2 GB Ram. Windows XP Pro SP 2.

I get 3 MB/s which should be 30 MB/s.

Re: Ultrium Performance

Try installing the adaptec drivers instead of the windows built-in drivers.
I've resolved in this way...

Also with other drives as dat.

Re: Ultrium Performance

I heared that Windows XP could be the problem
so i changed the OS.

Now it's working fine with Windows 2003.

Re: Ultrium Performance

I have windows xp, adaptec 160 and lto1 (the same config), and was only a drivers problem, with lastest adaptec and lastest lto drivers, i'll go at full scsi speed...

Re: Ultrium Performance

Hi, thanks for your help. Really appreciate that!

To determine if it was an OS problem, a system problem or something else, I installed the Adaptec card in my old Pentium III Dell running windows 2000 SP4.

Installed the appropriate drivers and the test software and guess what? Same problem! The LTT soft still shows that the SCSI card is the bottleneck... (didn't bother to actually test the speed yet).

So if it is not XP, and not the drivers, then it could be the Adaptec card, the card bios, the cable, or the tapedrive...

Can you see any obvious problems in my bios settings? (attached).

Thanks, Jan
