Unable to read 35/70 Tapes in 40/80 Drive

I am unable to read 35/70GB tapes in a new 40/80GB DLT drive. Each time it appears as Blank Media. The data is on the Tape and has been proven. Can anyone help me with this. Somebody mentioned that block size could be a problem. All my backup tapes are from a 35/70 drive.
