Upgrading Firmware???

I have a non-Compaq server that has an internal Compaq DLT 7000 drive attatched to an Adaptec 2940UW. Is there any way I can upgrade the Firmware? I saw that version 1.70 is out and tried disk 6, but it errored out saying that it can't find any devices attached. I even loaded the adaptec HBA drivers for the card in a DEVICE line in CONFIG.SYS.

Any insight would be appreciated.
