Using an MSL2024 without barcodes

Is it possible to use standard HP LTO5 Media with this tape device, and not have barcoded labels on the media. The Hose software is Symantec Backup Exec 12.

Re: Using an MSL2024 without barcodes

I cannot se a reason why to do this, but why not? A scan would take much longer, but IMHO it works anyway.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

As Torsten says, it probably works, but...

The library would have to actually read the tape to identify it, making scans painfully slow. (As if these operations aren't slow enough already)

As said, the inventory will go trough the load of each tape, it may take 10 or 15 minutes to finish, and if you have the unit in SAN, and some windows hosts are not well configured, you can immagine your unit will scan for ever... as each host with RSM active will try to load unload all the tape to invertory them all ;)

Re: Using an MSL2024 without barcodes

I will seek to obtain barcodes as it would appear to disadvantageous to use a configuration without them.

Re: Using an MSL2024 without barcodes

You can easily print your own barcode labels with Avery DesignPro (http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Templates-&-Software/Software/Avery-DesignPro-for-PC.htm) and Avery #6577 labels (5/8"H x 3"W).

There are other options for printing your own labels with just MS Word and a 3of9 barcode font.
