VS80 and DLT 8000 format

VS80 and DLT 8000 format

I have some old tapes that we used with a HP Surestore 818 drive a few years ago that I am trying to restore using a VS80 autoloader. I get a media error with the "!" on each tape. From what I can gather maybe the 818 model used DLT8000 format? Even so, from the product docs on the VS80 it is supposed to be able to use these tapes as read-only. Any suggestions besides having our old 818 repaired? Thanks!!

AFAIR the DLT8000 and VS80 format on tape is not compatible.
