W2000 and 5GB tape error 40A0

Installed the tape drive and tape software and everything went fine. When I started to create a tape backup set I received the error about a hardware error and it was the 05-12-23-00-40A0 error. The firmware is 2.05 on the tape. Have tried to install what I think is the latest (2.08) but can not get the utilities to work with 2000. It says the tape did not respond quick enough. What am I doing wrong ? Thanks
George

Re: W2000 and 5GB tape error 40A0

What Backup software are using? What Ver.
if you are runing CBII you will need CBII 9.0
for Win 2000.

You can also try runing HP Colorado Tape Drive Diagnostic Tool to test the drive with it Here:

You can also try the following:
1. Try another tape.
2. Check the firmware revision, and upgrade to the latest firmware available.
NOTE: Upgrade firmware in DOS mode if it fails in Windows.

3. Attempt to reburn firmware even when it is the current version.

4. Cycle the power on the PC.

5. Run tape diag or test drive in DOS if firmware does not fix the issue in order to test hardware functionality.

2.08 solves alot of problems with the 5/8GB drives. However, it won't work with Win2000.

The other thingsworth doing is retensioning the tapes (critical)

You need an earlier O/S.

Re: W2000 and 5GB tape error 40A0

Thanks for the help, Used DOS to setup the config.sys file with the device= line and used HPT4DOS.exe to upgrade the firmware to 2.08. Rebooted PC and seems to work. Thanks Munir, John Nash suggested wouldn't work with 2000 and should get an earlier O/S. Am I going to have trouble down the road ?
